Cysegrodd Crist ā'i waed ei hun
Ddydd cynta'n blwyddyn newydd;
Cadwn e'n wyl
i gofio glān
Ddyoddefaint cynta'n Prynydd.
'Roedd dafnau gwaed
enwaediad Crist
Yn wystl o'i drist farwolaeth;
Ernes o'r gwaed
a ffrydiai'n lli'
A'r Galfari'n fwy helaeth.
Trwy waed cysegrodd Ef ei oes
O'i gryd i groes ei angau:
Trwy ddwfr ac arwydd glān y Groes
Cysegrwyd ein hoes ninau.
Enwaedwyd Crist, yr addfwyn Oen,
I ddyoddef poen ein beiau;
Bedyddiwyd ninau i ddwyn y groes
Ar hyd ein hoes fel yntau.
Enwaeda'n calon, Arglwydd Dduw,
Rho yspryd briw cystuddiol!
Enwaeda'n clustiau i wrando'n glau,
Dan grynu, d'eiriau nefol.
Pob mawl a fo i'r Iesu'n awr,
Am ddod i lawr o'r nefoedd,
Pob mawl i'r Tad
a'r Ysbryd byth,
Un Duw di-lyth yr oesoedd.

Tonau [MS 8787]: |
Christ consecrated with his own blood
The first day of the new year;
Let us keep it as a festival
to remember the holy
First suffering of our Redeemer.
The drops of blood
of the circumcision of Christ were
A pledge of his sad death;
An earnest of the blood
which would flow as a flood
on Calvary more widely.
Through blood He consecrated his lifespan
From the cradle to the cross of his death:
Through water and the pure sign of the Cross
Were consecrated our own lifespan.
Christ was circumcised, the tender Lamb,
To suffer the pain of our faults;
We were baptized to carry the cross
All our life long like he.
Circumcise our heart, Lord God,
Grant a bruised, afflicted spirit!
Circumcise our ears to hear readily,
While trembling, thy heavenly words.
All praise be to Jesus now,
For coming down to earth from heaven,
All praise to the Father
and the Spirit forever,
One unfailing God of the ages.
Circumcise :: Sanctify tr. 2015 Richard B Gillion |
O happy day, when first was poured
The blood of our redeeming Lord!
O happy day,
when first began
His sufferings for sinful man!
Just entered on
this world of woe,
His blood already learned to flow;
His future death
was thus expressed,
And thus His early love confessed.
From Heaven descending to fulfill
The mandates of His Father's will,
E'en now behold the victim lie,
The Lamb of God, prepared to die!
Lord, circumcise our hearts, we pray,
Our fleshly natures purge away;
Thy name, Thy likeness may they bear:
Yea, stamp Thy holy image there!
O Lord, the virgin born, to Thee
Eternal praise and glory be,
Whom with the Father we adore,
And Holy Ghost
forevermore.
